First Visit

An initial consultation is necessary to screen patients as to their suitability for a mandibular advancement splint (MAS) and to review your health history and the severity of your snoring problem. If upon screening it is determined that the problem may be more than simple snoring a recommendation will be made to see a medical sleep medicine specialist to assess for the more serious condition of sleep apnoea.

Even if sleep apnoea is ultimately diagnosed a mandibular advancement splint may be the recommended treatment but you will have the added assurance of knowing that you have been medically assessed and will continue to be monitored by a medical specialist. Sleep apnoea is essentially different to simple snoring in that it results in daytime sleepiness.

If it is diagnosed that you are suffering from simple snoring we will be able to proceed and make impressions of both jaws as well as make appropriate measurements to have a mandibular advancement splint (snoring appliance) made. The mandibular advancement splint will be made in the lab and provided to you on your second visit.

Second Visit

On your second visit the splint will be given to you with instructions as to it’s use and adjustment and care.

A follow-up third visit will be scheduled to ensure the splint is being worn correctly and managed
appropriately.
